He intends increased visibility of the Senate to the student body. "Students need to know what we are doing," Seinfeld said. He hopes to establish a Student Concern Committee which would listen to student concerns and then address them in an appropriate manner and take actions to fix the issues which arise or are causing discontent. He spoke of efficiency and increasing accountability within the student government which is part of making sure that jobs get done. "The main thing I have to offer is my energy and my passion for getting things done, and forming a connection with the students," Seinfeld said.

Papa also expressed his views and arguments defending his position of why he should be re-elected as president. His main focus was his six-step strategy of sustaining success which acts as an extension of his previous six steps of leadership. One of his most important accomplishments as president has been the increase in student body fees last year. The positive outcome was that 80 percent of this money has been redistributed to students, giving the chance to students to show leadership and creativity in organizing more events which are of interest to the students themselves rather than giving the money to the Executive Board and allowing them to make all the decisions. Leadership has been a huge part of Papa's career at Whittier College and he has had much experience with it in various organizations such as the Hawaiian Islanders' Club and the Business Leadership Group. He has also recruited students for the college and formed close relationships with administrators. This has allowed him to collaborate with administrators and plan successful events at Whittier.

Both candidates discussed issues such as increasing sustainability on campus and increasing environmentally oriented practices such as recycling and bringing green products to the campus. They also addressed the issue of improving the college experience for commuter students by providing them with a designated space on campus as well as developing an ASWC web site which would be made accessible to all students, facilitate the funding application process and provide information on everything which is addressed by the Senate.

One of the concerns of the debate was that it did not focus on the specifics of the issues discussed. "I did not feel the vice president should have been the moderator, and she did not stress enough the question of how the candidates were planning to achieve their goals. I do not think that people left the debate with a certainty of who they were going to vote for," Ontiveros said.
