With the departure of Human Resources Manager Maritza Magallanes and Student Employment Coordinator Beth Munday, the Human Resources Department is going through major changes.
Whittier alumnus Adam Kaplan is the new Human Resources Director. He has recently promoted Maritza Magallanes from Benefits Manager to the Human Resources Manager position because in mid-November the former Human Resources Manager Monica Miranda announced that she will be leaving "to pursue a career enhancing employment opportunity," according to Adam Kaplan.
As a result, there will be new staff members in the Human Resources Department. "Maritza and I are looking for two new incumbents to join the HR team in the roles of Benefits Coordinator and Human Resources Coordinator." Kaplan said. "The Benefits Coordinator will focus on the administration of the College's and Law School's employee benefits program. The Human Resources Coordinator will dedicate a majority of his/her time administering the student work study program and will also spend a significant amount of time assisting Maritza and me with human resources related projects throughout the year."
Another staff member that is no longer in the department is Beth Munday. Munday unexpectedly lost her position as Student Employment Coordinator in early October, but it is still unknown as to why. "I would not say that this is a touchy subject but it is a situation in which I must respect Ms. Munday's right to privacy and the College's responsibility as a fair and equitable employer to maintain confidentiality as it relates to employment decisions," Kaplan said.
As Student Employment Coordinator, Munday's major role was to assist the students with work-study. She assisted with SEAR forms and time sheets. Many students at Whittier take advantage of work-study, so many have interacted with Munday for the latter reasons. Now that Munday is no longer with Whittier College, the position is still available, until it is filled students can still get assistance with work-study in the Human Resources Department. "In the interim, for assistance with their work-study needs, students can approach any Human Resources staff member including myself or any of the student workers who are assigned to the Human Resources Department," Kaplan said. "All the student workers in the Human Resources Department have been trained to provide assistance pertaining to the student work-study program."
The positions for Human Resources Coordinator and Student Employment Coordinator are still open, the Department does not know when those positions will be filled, but students will not suffer as a result, because there are workers providing services.
