Whittier Weekend brings alumni, college plans for more alumni-student connections

Coinciding with Homecoming, Whittier Weekend offers Whittier College alumni the opportunity to reconnect with other people connected to the college through class reunions, society brunches and various athletic and Homecoming events. However, despite the Homecoming festivities, not all students have expressed a strong connection with alumni.

Having a fun night for students who choose to stay on campus on the weekends and a providing a great opportunity for students and alumni to bond were precisely what the Whittier College Program Board and alumni association had in mind when organizing Casino Night on Friday, Oct.

Auxiliary Club ends after years of service to the College

Service, Dedication, Pride and Generosity: these words are not enough to describe Whittier College's 105-year-old volunteer organization that "started as a support group for the college," Professor of Theatre and Communication Arts Rich Cheatham said. The Woman's Auxiliary, which originally consisted of faculty's wives and community leaders' wives, and later parents of students, staff, alumni and members of the community "wanted to help the school in any way possible and try to make the community a better place," Cheatham said.

Staff changes take place in Human Resources

With the departure of Human Resources Manager Maritza Magallanes and Student Employment Coordinator Beth Munday, the Human Resources Department is going through major changes. Whittier alumnus Adam Kaplan is the new Human Resources Director. He has recently promoted Maritza Magallanes from Benefits Manager to the Human Resources Manager position because in mid-November the former Human Resources Manager Monica Miranda announced that she will be leaving "to pursue a career enhancing employment opportunity," according to Adam Kaplan.

Franklin Society event returns to campus after two years of probation with help of Sachsens

Whittier College students dressed in their costumes to attend a new hit event hosted by the Franklin and Sachsen societies, Fracsenstein which took place on Friday, Oct. 23 at the Manhattan Lounge in Uptown Whittier, had over 300 guests in attendance. People either walked or took the shuttle bus, which provided service from Philadelphia House to the venue.
