For 25 years, AIDS Walk Los Angeles has honored people lost to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and spread hope for a future without AIDS. This past Sunday, Oct. 18, 13 Whittier College students participated in the 25th annual AIDS Walk in West Hollywood with more than 30,000 other people walking for a cure.
Walking up the stairs toward Villalobos Hall, students are welcomed to the Professional and Graduate School Fair by the musical stylings of KPOET radio. The Graduate School Fair, along with the cool breeze and the upbeat music, seemed to be summoning a positive future for the students of Whittier College.
Sunday, October 18 at 7 p.m., the sun had vanished behind the Campus Center and the sky was a dark, dull purple. Clusters of students, alumni and others gathered in and around the lighted dance floor between the campus bookstore and the C.I. to demonstrate their knowledge of Argentine tango.
This year, Diwali was celebrated with great enthusiasm on the Whittier College campus. Students from the all-new 'Indian Club,' PARIVAR, celebrated in the traditional way by lighting candles, making the Campus Center sparkle with over a hundred of them on Friday and Saturday night.
On Monday, Oct. 19, Whittier kicked off Homecoming week with Jamming for Homecoming. The event was held in the Campus Inn courtyard and attracted nearly 100 students. There were live student formed bands playing at the event as everyone awaited nominations for the Homecoming Court.
